Somdej Puttajarn (Toh) story Part 2
Many memorials were buikt in his honor in Angtong and Bangkok.
At the age of 12,he was ordained as a novice and resided at Wat Rakhang.One day the legend has it that Somdej Phraputtakosajarn(Naga)dream that white elephant ate away all 3 Tripitaka books.
When he woke up and reinterpreted his dream,he discovered that someone might bring in a wusnderkind or genius boy.In this case he left a message that should any one would bring in a kid to live with him,he asked the kid Toh meet him first.The following day novice Toh was brought in to see him and it turned out that the novice was exceptionally bright.
Novice Toh was under the mentorship of the Supreme Patriarch who once said :- “This novice didn’t come to study with me,he came here to interpret the Tripitaka for us”
Novice Toh was a content and non-ambitious person. He was well-versed in Tripitaka,but unfortunately he never took an exam.
One of his charms was that the could give beautiful sermon since the time he was only a novice.One of the persons who loved listening to his sermon was King Rama the second when he was a prince,and gave him a boat for his use.
King Rama the first ordained him as amonk at the royal chapel.Once King Rama the third graciously appointed him but he went away to the countryside as a mediators in order to refuse the title.However finally King Rama the fourth appointed him again at the time when he was 64 years old.It is well known that his monk was very sagacious and well learnt in Pali text.Once he translated the taxt for three days in presence of King Rama the third up to the level of top ecclesiastical exam standard.
His life had been devoted solely to religious affairs.He died in B.E.2415 or A.D.1862 reaching the age of 85.
