FATHER KASEM KEMAGO History Part-2

BUDDHIST MONK,WHOSE LIFE OF BLISS AND RELIGIOUS MEDITATION,
NEVER FAIL TO BE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.

Part2..Father Kasem had practised meditation in several cemeteries until finally he decided to settle down at Trailak in Lampang.
His conduct and practice have drawn attention from several disciples.Phra Bhavanavisuthajarn of Wat Traimite commented:- “Father Kasem has always been highly devout. Even his ecclesiastical robe has not been changed indiscriminately nor his bowl which accepts food without considering that he should simply partake of it in order to survive and not be carried away by its taste and flavour. His shelter is simple and good enough to avoid strong sunburn and mosquitos.Even Medication is dealt with in the sense that he can separate mind from body. another path of deliverance from worldly suffering and woes”
“Another aspect is when Father Kasem finds [a[er scattered here and threr he would collect and habg it on trees. When ask why he did it that way he answered that alphabets and letters may lead people to Arahatship.the highest stage of deliverance.”
“So we should not contempt the paper which could be used to teach Dharma. His teaching is compared to Buddhist riddles which do not give direct answers not solutions. One requires mind and wisdom to reinterpret the meaning in order to discover a more profound path.”
Phra Bhavanavisuthajarn Vi,also observed:- “The Dharmahood
as realized by monks is not known by outsides except by the monks themselves, otherwise it should be devoid of meaning once it is explained as having reached the high stage of development. However,it may be chassified according to four levels;namely,Sodaban or person has attained enlightment;Sakitaka, person of great enlightment;Anakami, person who has renounced worldy pleasures and Arahat or person who has completely realized the four noble truths as discovered by Lord Buddha.Once he mentioned that Buddhadassa is the monk who has renounced worldly pleasures. It,therefore,is known far and wide that he realizes that Buddhadassa is an Anakami. He himself, therefore, should be at least an Anakami.”
Once their Majesties the King and Queen visited him and graciously supported and patronized him as well.Father Kasem has been a source of faith and a great follower of Buddha’s teachings, whose conduct has been incomparable and well-respected by people all over the country.

FATHER KASEM KEMAGO Part-1

BUDDHIST MONK,WHOSE LIFE OF BLISS AND RELIGIOUS MEDITATION,
NEVER FAIL TO BE A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.

Father Kasem as we Thai call him resides at Trilak,Lampang province, has been known to be a highly devout and well-disciplined member of Buddist Order,Whose faith and practice have been respected by people from all walks of life.
He is directly related to the aristocratic Na’Lampang family. His father was Prince Noinu Na’Lampang and his mother,Princess Buajon, niece of Prince Boonvat Vongmanit, the last ruler of Lampang.Father Kasem entered the monkhood in 1920 for the first time just for seven days and his devout faith remained with him.Acouple of year later he was re-ordained as a novice at Wat Boonyun.Lampang.

In 1931,the yong novice passed ecclesiastical exam. He took interest in Khmer language, dialects and Pali, the latin of Buddhism,so he could study the religion more fully. He was then under the mentorship of Phra Kru Pichaimongkol, abbot of Wat Pichaimongkol, and practiced meditation in different cemeteries to the extent that he could develop his understanding and realization of the world and the path towards peace and compassion.
In 1932 Father Kasem was ordained as a monk and has been known by his religious name as “Kemago” meaning person of happy and well-contented Dharma.Four years later,he passed another high level of ecclesiastical exam where he learned Buddhist language more thoroughly. With firm belief in the law of evanescence and impermanence, Whether it be praise, honour, groly, blame or whatsoever,he practiced meditation to be delivered from the worldly concerns. The abbot of the monastery passed away. The monks and the people unanimously voted that he should be the abbot. He finally accepted it as good successor of Buddhist teachings, though he preferred to be delivered form worldly preoccupations.
In 1951,he decided to resign from being an abbot but was held back by senior monks,Eventually he left away quietly leaving the following
message:- Everything I taught is fine. But please don’t accompany me since I have renounced the worldly pleasures.Being an abbot may be compared to being chief of the household who is responsible for several things though not appropriate for me. I would go towards peace and serenity and I shall never return”.

Question; wondered whether other types such Phramedkhanoon may be regarded as belonging to the five attributes or not.

Answer; That it’s could be since the images belongs to the same province and same nicheunder the same stupa. Only Medkhanoon is included among the five attributes(Bhenjapakee).
Question; The way to examine the qualities of Thai Buddha images that each image has her own character
And identity. As will as the mould. When readers would live to compare with the real one. They should use photograps to help.that we have to look at images scientifically whether they are composed of what type of mass.Since most of them are antiquarian.Their age should be over hundred years old.The elasticity and decomposition of the images may be seen as another kind of indication. Some experts who have compared images for along time can sort out which one is true. This is based upon experience and collection of information and facts.

Answer; Somdej Phraphuttajarn (Toh) images have been collected over a long time. However, there are conflicting opinions. One says they are created by him, other would dispute.
There is no clear proof. However, these three different kinds of Somdej have been very popular and highly lauded. Anyway, scientific progress could fake such images quite closely. Therefore, what one has to look at are aspects in order to be sure that it is genuine Buddha images. Nowadays, the price is quitre costly but we can look at the details from illustrated book starting form the mould whether each line joins each other in the carved bas-relief.
There should also be elasticity of the mould, and the bash of each image many be regarded as an excellent quide-line which no one can imitate or fake since the back would contract in accordance with the age of each image.

However, one requires to look at it through the magnifying glass.
The discussion help by there two prominent experts lasts only ten minutes,However,it shall be continued in the next issue.

A good sophistiquated look at Buddha images

Part-1

This type of science may not be regarded as inflexible or too rigid. It depends upon the person who takes a look at Buddha images and this may involve a long period of time and a good collection of data and information. Our Blog finds it very universal and invaluable as part of our civilization and world heritage.
The following is an interview and exchange of ideas and opinions between two prominent experts on Buddha images and their five atrributes. The best known images range from
1.Phra Somdej Wat Rakhang
2.Phra Soomkor Wat Pikul 3.Phra pong Supan 4. Phra Rod of lampoon 5.Phra Nangphaya Pissanuloug
The two experts discussed about the magical qualities as well as archacological value.Ownership of these images is regarded as very rare, and,of course, highly valued.

Question; reiterated the fact that the back of the image may be deemed a great teacher in the sense thatit cannot be faked in any aspect. Besides the two connoisseurs also elaborated a great deal on their experience and collection of information.

Answer; suggested that person who named the famous Buddha images as having five attributes was Staff officer Pajon in his book called the “Tri-yam-ba-waay”, a beautiful explanation with proper reasoning.Quite a great number of readers still adore the book.He said that there were altogether several moulds for example,

                                                    Phra Somdej had 12-13 moulds.
Phra Pong of Supan had 3 moulds for a big, medium and young-faced types whereas
Phra Soomkor had 4 prints for the large-size,medium,small and kha-nom-pear types.
Phra Nangphaya also had several moulds such as the images with round knees, straight knees, big-size chest and the angelic style. In the former days people call it small chest print or mould.
Phra Rod went through 5 prints such as big-size,medium,small and other types which have unclear moulds. The five attributes sange from big, medium and small type to the one with small chest. In the olden days, the five attributes may be called a serial since they are composed of big-size Wat Rakhang, round knees Phra Nangphaya,big-size Phra Rod,Phra Soomkor big-size and lastly Phra Pong Supan old-facted.
These are the supreme and ultimate style of Buddha images. Those with secondary aesthetic form are Phra Somdej Wat Rakhang moulded in from of stupa,straight-knees Phra Nangphaya,Phra Rod pim-klang (medium print),Phra Soomkor pim-klang(medium print), and Phra Pongsupan pim-na-klang(medium-faced)

Somdej Puttajarn (TO) story Part 1

Somdej Puttajarn (TO) story Part 1
In Thailand, Traditional Buddha images have been created to protect the owners from danger. When images are created.Bhuddhist religious verses and incantation are inscribed on them.Such method has been ured since Buddha era of about twelveth to sixteenth century.
Normally,a number of 18,000 images are created. This is why a large amount of Buddha images still remain until now.

Of all the images,Somdej Wat Rakong Has been very wellknown and is regarded as the king due to the aesthetic form and geometric square. The faith and belief in the images are based upon their wonder and miracle.Ever the real life of Somdej has drawn attention from Buddhist believers to the extext that most Thais remember his story. For example, this somdej once denied ecclesiastical title conferred upon him by the King. His compassionate mind and kindness have been admired by the Thai people in general.

Creators of images had designed in quite different aeshetecal froms based upon the Khata or incantation which regards:-
“ All Dharma is born of cause. The Lord Hath explained its cause and its extinction. This is what the Lord hath said”

If you happen to ask any thai about the word”Luang Poh To” or somdej they would be able to answer you that they have heard of the word.He has been known to be a kind monk and also a person who has reached a high level of enlightenment.

The reason why Somdej Wat Rakhang image has been highly lauded is due to the fact that it has a geometric rectangular from and its body and the pedestal have been miniaturized from the principal Buddha image, without his left and right disciples. The image, therefore, looks outstanding.

However, what accounts most in the mind of the thai people is the wonderful character of Somdej Puttajarn (TO) , so-called creator of the no.2 image.

He was born on 17 April,1888 equivalent to Thursday of the fifth month,12 th waxing moon, year of monkey and Jula era of 1550,in the reign of King Rama the first at Bankaijon,Taluang sub-district,Ayuthya.His mother’s name was Kes,a villager from trit sub-district,Banpoh district,Uttaradit. This family moved to stay in Chaiyo,Angtong province and later removed to Bangkhunprom sub-district,Ayuthaya.
